FIELD NOTES / PISTOL

Pistol location: look inside the carriage.

Your first pistol is in Chapter 2: Regroup, in a carriage below the broken bridge near the Demolished Path Lantern. Follow the platforming route down and check the left side inside the carriage.[1] It is a pickup on the route, rather than the final reward for An Unheard Farewell.[2]

From Demolished Path to the pistol

  1. Reach the Demolished Path Lantern in the Valley of Ashes. If you are still on the opening battlefield, continue the story before searching for a firearm.
  2. Follow the destroyed bridge downward using its remaining platforms and ramps. Watch the ledges that guide the route rather than jumping straight across the whole chasm.
  3. After several jumps you reach a soldier facing away. Use the higher ledge to approach the next landing instead of taking a damaging direct drop.
  4. Sprint and jump into the carriage ahead. Take the Pistol from the left, with cartridges nearby.[1]

You have the gun: what opens next?

Shoot the orange growths restraining the lift. The Pistol solves those weak-point barriers; the Fire Transmutation is used for the webbed, burnable cave obstruction. Keeping those two jobs separate helps when a new gun does not open every blockage.[2]

Do you need to finish the scout quest first?

No quest hand-in is needed to collect the gun: the published route picks it up before returning to the officer. Accepting the nearby quest is useful because its route overlaps; its completion reward is Sleight of Hand Amber. Follow our An Unheard Farewell guide for the notes and report choice.[2]
