The ending: victory is not the whole aftermath.
Full ending spoilers. The reported finale shows William removing the final enemy’s glowing core, followed by a montage that includes a guillotine and an army advancing through snow. The unresolved army is why the ending can feel less conclusive than winning the last fight.[1]
What the reported final sequence contains
AllThingsHow’s cutscene summary describes William confronting the golden entity after returning to find his allies gone. It then describes the core extraction, Napoleon’s downfall imagery and the continuing military march. This is a summary of that account, not footage we independently recorded.[1]
What is shown, and what is interpretation?

Can you return for unfinished tasks?
PowerPyx’s Chapter 11 route documents endgame exploration and cleanup, including the final Oathbound return and other remaining collectibles. A late-story travel restriction therefore should not be confused with every optional task being permanently lost.[2]
